Individual Work
I work with adults experiencing a broad range of concerns. I commonly support individuals in the areas of self esteem, grief and loss, body image, worries, self-doubt, motivation, stress, feeling stuck, and concerns about the future.
I like to start with an introductory session where I would get to know more about you and learn what you hope to get out of our work together. In follow up sessions we will focus on the item’s you’ve identified as important and review the progress we are making together. I welcome your feedback and reflections on how therapy is working at all stages of the process.
The therapeutic models I draw from include Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness Practices. I am also interested in integrating creative approaches (such as music, painting, comic making, art journaling, etc.) when helpful and if you are also interested in this, it is something we can explore together.
I work from a strengths based, anti-oppressive, reflective approach. For me this means that my work is collaborative and centers you as the expert in what will work best for you. I emphasize giving you space to process hard feelings in a warm and empathetic space.
Caregiver Work
Parent and caregiver work is where I started in my career and I recognize the need for specific support in this role. I offer support to caregivers who have a loved one with a mental health and/or substance use concern. I work from a non-blaming approach that considers what your strengths are in your relationship with your loved one and how those can be build on to create a supportive environment for everyone.
Being a family or caregiver to someone with these concerns can be a rollercoaster of emotions. I work with caregivers to help them understand their loved one’s mental illness, to look at ways they can povide support, and to provide some understanding of services and how to interact with service providers in the system. We will touch on self care and caregiver mental health as caregivers need to be healthy themselves in order to provide the best possible care for their loved one.
